Dublin’s Four Courts building stands on the northern quays of the
River Liffey. One of the city’s most attractive older structures, it was built in the late 18th century to house the Irish Law Courts. In 1921 and 1922, during
Ireland’s struggle for independence from
Britain, the domed building was nearly destroyed. It has since been carefully restored to its original splendour.
